Salmon Gums roadhouse death: Man dead and another in custody after alleged homicide

A father is dead and his son is in police custody after an apparent fight between the pair at the Salmon Gums roadhouse in the early hours of Friday morning. Police and St John WA were called to the BP Roadhouse on Coolgardie–Esperance Highway in Salmon Gums, about 100km north of Esperance, about 12.30am on Friday after reports of a person with a serious injury. The West Australian understands the injuries were wounds inflicted on the man’s leg. It is believed the injured man’s son called police to tell them that his father was injured and bleeding heavily. A confronting video was circulating on social media in the hours after the incident, appearing to show the disturbing aftermath. “Dad, wake the f... up Dad,” a man’s voice could be heard saying in the clip. Emergency services swooped on the scene but the injured man, believed to be in his 50s, could not be revived. A police spokesman said a man in his 20s had been taken into custody and was assisting with the investigation. It is understood police are exploring the possibility of an altercation between the father and son. Homicide squad detectives have been sent to the small town in the Goldfields-Esperance region and are working with local police and detectives. A Salmon Gums community Facebook page announced that the roadhouse would be closed on Friday as the investigation continued.
