Second man charged over alleged kickbacks for contracts at Western Power

A second man has been charged over an alleged $1.45 million kickbacks for contracts corruption scandal at Western Power.

The 55-year-old, who is not a Western Power employee, was arrested after he flew into Perth International Airport on Thursday.

Police say he has a personal relationship with former Western Power employee Rodney George Pearson, who was charged last week after he allegedly used his position to influence the awarding of contracts worth $1.45 million in returns for kickbacks.

Financial Crimes Squad detectives executed search warrants at a business premises in Bassendean and a residential premises in Iluka before charging the 55-year-old.

They say the man’s business financially benefited from the tender and contract arrangements allegedly facilitated by Mr Pearson.

The 55-year-old from Iluka has been charged with 26 counts of corruption and one count of attempted corruption.

He is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court on Monday.
