A West Australian man who allegedly inflicted serious injuries on his infant daughter has been charged with murder after she died in hospital.

The four-week-old girl suffered life-threatening injuries in September after allegedly being assaulted in her home.

She died in hospital on December 27.

Juan Daniel Visagie, 25, was initially charged with grievous bodily harm, but WA Police on Tuesday said his charge would be upgraded to murder in court.

He will face Perth Magistrates Court on Wednesday via videolink from Hakea Prison.
