An alleged drunk driver is set to be charged after causing havoc in Perth’s northern suburbs last night, police say.

Police said the rampage started about 6.15pm when a 51-year-old man allegedly assaulted two women and crashed into a parked car on Cumberland Way in Bassendean.

About 30 minutes later the same man, driving a flatbed Mazda truck, was at a red traffic light at the intersection of Wanneroo Road and Reid Highway in Mirrabooka.

Police will allege he kept “pushing” into the car in front of him, before nudging past and going through a red light.

The damaged car in front of him was spun around and the driver, a woman in her 70s, was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Police said the man was spotted again shortly after on Balcatta Road as he turned onto Reid Highway again.

He was finally intercepted and arrested when driving on Gnangara Road in Lexia.

Following the alleged offender’s arrest, police claim they found cannabis leaf material in his possession. He was also breathalysed and allegedly produced a blood alcohol level sample in excess of 0.08.

The Wanneroo man will be charged by summons with a number of offences, including assault, no authority to drive, reckless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.

He will appear in court at a later date.
