Arson Squad investigates two suspicious house fires in Cloverdale and Beckenham

Two people have been taken to hospital and three are in custody after two suspicious house fires in Perth’s south eastern suburbs last night.

Emergency services were first called to a home in Hendra Street in Cloverdale just before 10.15pm last night.

Firefighters found asbestos inside the house engulfed by flames.

Two occupants managed to escape and were taken to Royal Perth Hospital where they were treated for smoke inhalation.

The fire caused an estimated $200,000 worth of damage.

Just over an hour and a half later, emergency services were called to a second fire in Beckenham.

Police say a window was smashed at the front of the Central Terrace home, before a fire was lit, causing about $80,000 of damage.

Three people were arrested and are being questioned by police.

Arson Squad detectives are investigating both fires — which they believe are not related — and have asked to speak to anyone who saw suspicious activity, has CCTV or dash-cam vision around the time of the fires.

Rewards of up to $50,000 are available for information that leads to the identification and conviction of an arsonist.
