A man has been rushed to hospital after being pulled unconscious from calm waters at Rockingham Beach by a diver.

Emergency services responded to reports of an unconscious man at the popular beach, 45km south of Perth, about 11.20am.

Police and St John WA paramedics provided the man emergency first aid before he was rushed to Rockingham Hospital.

The man’s age and condition are not known.

A witness, who wished to remain anonymous, told The West that the man was pulled to shore by a diver, who was part of a larger group in the area.

“He was pulled from the water by a diver, they did CPR on him until the emergency crew got there,” they said.

“They were working on the man for approximately 10-15 minutes, I’m not sure (if he had a) heartbeat.

“I hope he makes it.”

The witness said the incident was distressing to witness.

“(It was) very sad and traumatic to see. . . I did not see how it happened,” they said.

“There were no waves at all . . . but the diver who pulled him out did amazing.”

The stretch of beach where the man was pulled from appeared to be shallow on Wednesday, with water reaching below the knee for many locals until about 100m away from shore.

Several families and solo swimmers are believed to have been on the beach at the time of the incident.
