Emergency services are racing against time to rescue a driver involved in a two-truck crash in the Wheatbelt where both vehicles were engulfed in flames.

The collision happened about 6.45am on Wednesday at the intersection of Great Eastern Highway and Quellington Road in Meckering, 130km east of Perth.

Police said a refrigerated van collided with a truck towing a container trailer.

Ten career and volunteer firefighting teams were still at the scene working alongside four paramedic crews around 9.30am despite having the blaze under control just after 7am.

An emergency rescue helicopter was dispatched.

The condition and exact number of individuals involved remains unconfirmed.

Great Eastern Highway has been closed in both directions near Quellington Road.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area.
