Power outage in Scarborough, Trigg, Doubleview, Woodlands and Karrinyup as temperatures near 40C

Thousands of properties were without power in Perth’s northern suburbs as kids returned to classrooms and temperatures soared above 40C on Monday.
More than 3300 properties in Scarborough, Trigg, Doubleview, Woodlands and Karrinyup were experiencing outages just after 12pm, with Western Power estimating a restoration time of 5.30pm.
The outage zone included Doubleview Primary School, Scarborough Primary School and St John’s School, however Doubleview Primary School and Scarborough Primary School told PerthNow they had not been impacted.
St Johns School has confirmed they were affected by the outage.
A spokesperson for Western Power told PerthNow that they were able to restore power to most houses just before 2pm, with only 159 residents still without power at 2.12pm.
“We are unsure of the exact cause but we are investigating, there is many residents who were out of power but the number decreases quickly — we aim to have everyone’s power restored by 5.30pm,” the spokesperson said.
“We are aware some schools may have been affected but we are unclear of what schools have been affected.”
The blackout came as temperatures hit 41.2C in Perth.
Western Power is investigating what caused the power outage.
