Knife pulled, merchandise at Kmart and Zambrero Geraldton thrown and damaged in wild shopping centre brawl

Police are investigating a brawl at Northgate Shopping Centre that involved a knife and spilled into retail stores, resulting in significant damage and the loss of merchandise. About 4.30pm on Tuesday, July 30, Geraldton police say a brawl involving five suspects began in the carpark. The five suspects are believed to have continued the brawl inside Kmart, where stock was taken from shelves and thrown across the store. Geraldton police officer-in-charge Sen. Sgt Chris Martin said a man pulled a knife out, causing another to run into Zambrero Geraldton, where he began throwing glass bowls from behind the counter. He said the fight, involving teenage girls aged 16 and 17, a 37-year-old woman and two teenage males aged 17 and 18, continued until police arrived and issued move on notices. Five suspects have been identified and are yet to be charged. “We have established those involved and police will be making efforts to arrest and charge them in the coming days,” Sen. Sgt Martin said. “This is obviously a very disappointing incident, particularly as it occurred in a large shopping centre in Geraldton. The public should be reassured the police are taking all the necessary steps to bring those involved to court.”
