Mid West Development Commission to host two Oakajee SIA community meetings in Yuna and Northampton

The Shires of Chapman Valley and Northampton are hosting two information sessions to inform the community about the State Government’s plans for the Oakajee strategic industrial area and its potential to become a global hydrogen leader.
On Wednesday, August 23, the Mid West Development Commission will hold two meetings, one in Yuna and another in Northampton, to address the future potential of the Oakajee SIA and encourage the community’s commitment to realise the project.
The first forum will be held at Yuna Multipurpose Community Centre from 9am-12pm, with the second session following at Northampton Community Centre in the afternoon between 2pm and 5pm.
State Government agencies, project proponents and hydrogen experts will be in attendance to unravel the industry’s potential, its possible impacts and the opportunities it may provide.
The forum will provide a “Hydrogen 101”, explaining why WA has an opportunity to become a global renewable energy industry leader, with some of the best solar, wind, tidal and wave resources in the world.
The forum will express that the Mid West is home to a range of critical minerals and rare earths required for the manufacture of electrolysers, wind turbines, electric vehicles and decarbonised products, which could be exported through already established infrastructure connections.
Guest speakers include Fortescue Mid West regional manager Rob Hunn, Green LOHC director David Paull, BP Australia business developer James Foley, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners CEO Shohan Seneviratne, International Energy Agency Australian representative for hydrogen Professor Craig Buckley and more.
