Gotzinger Smallgoods issues nationwide recall over listeria in sliced deli meats
A major recall has been issued for a range of deli meats sold in NSW and Queensland after traces of listeria were detected.
Gotzinger Smallgoods has pulled multiple 1kg sliced products from sale, sparking warnings for consumers across both states.
Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) confirmed the affected products were sold in retail outlets and butcher shops in NSW and Queensland.
The recall covers:
- Sliced Silverside 1kg – use by 20 December 2025;
- Sliced Roast Beef 1kg – use by 13 December 2025;
- 4x4 Sliced Ham 1kg – use by 13 December 2025;
- Champagne Ham Sliced 1kg – use by 17 December 2025; and
- Provincial Ham Sliced 1kg – use by 5 December 2025.
Gotzinger Smallgoods products are sold at major retailers including Woolworths, Coles, Costco, IGAs, FoodWorks, Harris Farm Markets, Super Butcher stores, as well as selected delis, butchers and independent grocers.
“Consumers should return the products to the place of purchase for a full refund,” the FSANZ recall notice said.
“Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice.
“Listeria monocytogenes may cause severe illness in pregnant women, unborn babies, neonates, the elderly and immunocompromised individuals.
“The general population can also become ill from consuming food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.”
A Gotzinger Smallgoods spokesperson said food safety authorities had detected listeria in its 1kg sliced roast beef.
“As per the advice of Food Safety Authorities, we have immediately withdrawn this product from sale and recalled it from our customers,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson added that other products were recalled as a precaution, including Sliced Silverside 1kg, Champagne Ham Sliced 1kg, 4x4 Ham Sliced 1kg, and Provincial Ham Sliced 1kg.
“These recalled sliced products are produced separately from our other ranges, and no other Gotzinger Smallgoods products are affected,” they said.
They confirmed the company was working closely with distributors to remove affected products from their channels.
“These products are food service only and not sold to retail. Despite limited and unlikely public availability, we have instigated a public recall in the interest of public safety,” the spokesperson said.
“If consumers were to come across any of these products, we advise them not to consume said products and to contact the place of purchase immediately.
“We remain fully committed to the highest food safety standards and are reviewing our processes to ensure that our products and operations remain an exemplar in the industry.”
