Hand-in-hand, the Gnowangerup community is united in support of positive mental health.

Residents came together last month to create something powerful for the Blue Tree Project.

On October 14, Gnowangerup Yorgas Group, Gnowangerup Community Resource Centre, and the Shire of Gnowangerup joined forces to create Gnowangerup’s blue tree with an important message: “It’s OK to not be OK”. The new blue tree aims to remind anyone who passes by of that fact.

More than 90 handprints have been placed on the tree in a show of community support.

After the painting was completed, Gnowangerup’s Rapid Relief Team served up a barbecue.

The idea was initiated by a small group of Aboriginal women in the area, Gnowangerup Yorga Group, to highlight how important it is for people to talk about their issues.

The event was tied in with Mental Health Week.
