Kojonup remain unbeaten in the Katanning Netball Association’s A-grade competition, notching their second win for the season over Olympians on Saturday, while Dumbleyung and Cardinals Force finished in a draw.

In the first A-grade game of the day at the Katanning Leisure Centre, Kojonup notched their second win of the season after a bye in round two, defeating Olympians 53-37.

Olympians made a fast start, carving out a one-goal advantage in the first quarter, but Kojonup refused to let them build momentum, taking back control in the second with 17 goals thanks to shooting pair Nadine Milne and player-coach Sheridan Kowald.

Both teams were playing with only one on the bench, with Billie-Jo French out for Olympians and Alanna White and Ella Zadow out for Kojonup.

Kojonup’s big second quarter proved to be the key, and they came back strong after the half time break to net 13 goals and confine Olympians to six, extending their leading margin to 11 goals by the end of the third quarter.

Kojonup brought it home confidently, adding another 10 goals to their haul in the final term to defeat Olympians 53-37.

Kojonup and Allstars are set to meet in a top-of-the-table clash in round four, with the reigning premiers and the ladder second-placers both unbeaten in this season’s competition.

In the second match of the day, Cardinals Force and Dumbleyung finished their match with the first draw of the A-grade competition, with scores at 36-all at the final whistle.

The game was evenly matched from the start, with Cardinals getting a slight one-goal edge after the first quarter, netting eight goals to Dumbleyung’s seven.

The two sides played goal for goal throughout the game, with Cardinals keeping their narrow advantage through the second and third terms as they took the opportunity with three players on the bench to rotate through positions, giving Mia Hamon, Raevin Tunui and Addison O’Neill chances in the circle.

Dumbleyung kept Te Rina Pardoe and Claire Goater in the circle for most of the game, while Madison Gauntlett and Brianna Young worked hard in defence at the other end of the court.

Dumbleyung managed to outscore the leaders in the final quarter as Cardinals struggled more to convert attempts into goals and Dumbleyung’s shooting duo seemed to thrive under the last-minute pressure by comparison.

With the late burst of energy, Dumelbyung managed to close the margin on Cardinals, but neither team managed to net the all-important goal to break away and take the win before the final whistle.
