Undefeated carnival from Lower Great Southern to claim Inter League Men’s Round Robin Fours title in Kulin

Lower Great Southern have emerged victorious at the Southern Country Zone Inter League Men’s Round Robin Fours competition held in Kulin this month.

Six representative teams attended the carnival on January 7-9 at the Kulin Bowling Club with players taking part in five games of 21 completed ends.

South Central Arunga were the host area, made up of players from Karlgarin, Kondinin, Kukerin, Kulin, Lake Grace and Newdegate.

They were up against Great Southern (Darkan, Dumbleyung, Katanning, Kojonup, Moodiarrup, Wagin), Central Stirling (Borden, Broomhill, Gnowangerup, Jerramungup, Nyabing, Ongerup, Tambellup), Upper Great Southern (Brookton, Lake Yealering, Narrogin, Pingelly, Wickepin, Williams), Lower Great Southern (Albany, Cranbrook, Denmark, Emu Point, Frankland River, Green Range, Middleton Beach, Mt Barker, Mt Barker Golf, Walpole) and South East Coastal (Condingup, Esperance, Hopetoun, Ravensthorpe, Scaddan).

South East Coastal were the defending champions while Lower Great Southern were the last team to win the title when it was last played in Kulin back in 2016.

Lower Great Southern proved too strong across the three days, going through the five rounds unbeaten to reclaim the title.

They finished with 16 rink wins, 143 shots up and 10 points to defeat runners-up Great Southern on 10 rink wins, 36 shots up and eight points. The result handed Lower Great Southern their third Inter League Men’s Round Robin Fours title in the past four years.

Lower Great Southern captain Fred Holt and manager Mick Patterson accepted the trophy on behalf of their region.

South East Coastal were third with 8.5 rink wins, -31 shots up and four points to narrowly hold out Upper Great Southern (7.5 rink wins, -48 shots up and four points).

South Central Arunga were fifth with 9.5 rink wins, -39 shots up and two points and were followed by Central Stirling (8.5 rink wins, -61 shots up, two points).

Seven players from the successful Lower Great Southern team were selected in the Inter Zone Round Robin team to play in Busselton on February 5 and 6.
