Wagin young gun Jax Moffatt on target at Albany Clay Target Club’s annual January Trap Carnival

Promising young Wagin shooter Jax Moffatt enjoyed a fantastic weekend at Albany Clay Target Club’s annual January Trap Carnival.

In one of the biggest turn-outs in recent years, 90 shooters from all over the State attended the 21/2-day competition during which they shot seven events in ideal conditions.

The exciting 12-year-old starred to win the C-grade 50 targets double barrel event.

Moffatt hit 48 targets out of a possible 50 in the double barrel event and went on to win the shoot-off, which was outstanding considering he was the youngest shooter at the event.

WA Gun Club’s William Freni-Lizzi was the overall winner for the weekend after scoring an impressive 382 out of a possible 385 to claim the high-gun award at 18 years of age.

Freni-Lizzi won or placed in four out of the seven events during the carnival.

Across the carnival other high achievers were Royce Normington (Eastern Goldfields), Cameron Browne (Wagin), Luke Fisher (Katanning), Julian Higham (Collie), Liam Fitzpatrick (Hopetoun), Jacob Featherstone (Wagin), Sandra Moffatt (Wagin), Vince Oliveri (Geraldton) and Tony Burnard (Peel).

Jordon Crouch, David Conning, Ken Schlueter, Laurie Hull, and Fisher were some of the Katanning and Narrogin shooters who performed well across the event.

Ray Hawke, Matthew Waite and Leon Whittle were the best performing Albany locals.

Albany Clay Target Club president Ollie McPartland said the event was a great success, with competitors keen to come back next year.
