A small aircraft has crashed into the waters off the Northern Territory.
Emergency services received a report about a plane crashing near Angurugu on Groote Eylandt at approximately 11.40am on Tuesday.
It is not yet clear how many people were onboard, nor their condition.
NT Police told The Nightly they were responding to reports of a “small aircraft crash”.
“Members are currently responding to the incident,” a spokesperson said.
“Police are working to confirm the circumstances of the crash and the number of people involved.
“The response remains ongoing and further information will be provided as it becomes available.”
Groote Eylandt is located off the east coast of the Northern Territory in the Gulf of Carpentaria, about 630 kilometres east of Darwin.
