Aussie actor Lincoln Lewis believes his voicemail was recorded and used in an elaborate catfish scandal to dupe women into believing they were in a relationship with him.

The former Home And Away actor was quizzed during the appeal of Lydia Abdelmalek in the County Court of Victoria on Tuesday.

The 31-year-old Melbourne woman was sentenced to two years and eight months behind bars for six counts of stalking in 2019, but immediately appealed the decision and was granted bail.

She was convicted for stalking women after posing as the actor and convincing them they were in a relationship with him.

Defence lawyer Richard Edney quizzed the Tomorrow When the War Began star on whether it was just an assumption his voicemail was recorded and used by someone posing as him.

“Yes, you can say it’s an assumption, but with an amount of certainty and logic that would be the only way my voicemail could be attained,” Mr Lewis told the court.

“Have you finished your speech?” Mr Edney asked, before the prosecutor intervened.

The voicemail was aired in court on Monday and the actor said he would let calls go to his voicemail because he was getting calls from a mystery number with no one on the other end.

“The only conclusion I can come to is that it was recorded through that – that’s my assumption on it,” he said.

The actor – who also appeared on Dancing with the Stars – was questioned about his response to one of the women who thought they were in a relationship with him.

The court was told the woman called Mr Lewis in June 2011 after she became concerned and she planned to meet him in Sydney to discuss what happened.

“Lincoln Lewis did not meet up with me and he later told me he wanted nothing to do with making a complaint to police because of his reputation and job as an actor,” the woman told police.

“He did not want his work prospects in the future to be affected by such a complaint.”

But the actor denied that and said he “didn’t know what to do” and told her to speak to the police.

The woman said she was shocked Mr Lewis would not support her police complaint and because of his “lack of interest” they stopped being friends.

He disagreed and said he did make a statement in 2017 when it became “crucial”.

The hearing in front of Justice Claire Quin continues.
