The fact the 2019 Goldfields Football League grand final happened little more than six months ago somewhat defies belief, given how much the world has transformed since Kalgoorlie triumphed by 41 points against Boulder at Sir Richard Moore Oval.

But that shouldn’t dampen the spirits of Kangas fans when the match is streamed live on YouTube from 6pm today.

They’ll see tall forwards Cam Symonds (five goals) and Mitch Sheppard (three) dominate inside 50.

They’ll see Dylan Clarke (two goals) push himself to the point of exhaustion on the wing and across half-forward, delivering the ball with class and poise.

They’ll see Alex Stewart outpointing talented Boulder ruckman Justin Shand, providing fodder for midfielders Jack Varian, James Kirby, Rheece Bartel and company.

Boulder supporters, meanwhile, can enjoy the exploits of Tyson Hodge (three goals), whose best form matched or bettered the bulk of tall targets in Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

Winger Sam Rundle (two goals) played arguably his best game for the season, breaking the lines with relentless drive, while many others showed promise.

Naturally, many of Boulder’s most faithful supporters would rather forget the result.

But there were enough signs to suggest the Tigers will prove hard to beat if GFL action resumes in the second half of 2020.

Not least was first-year coach Aaron Sweet’s nous on the sidelines. Here’s hoping the club’s attractive game style continues on an upward trajectory when they’re back on the park.

Subscribers to Kangas’ YouTube channel (Kalgoorlie City Football Club) will be able to watch the match.
