Goldfields records its third confirmed case overnight

The Goldfields has recorded its third confirmed case of the coronavirus.

The State Government this afternoon confirmed the Goldfields was one of five new regional cases in the State.

The Department of Health reported there were 33 new cases of COVID-19 overnight, bringing the the State’s total to 311.

The confirmed regional cases include one each from the South West, Great Southern, Wheatbelt, Goldfields and Kimberley.

Of these new cases 16 cases reported overseas travel and seven from cruise ships.

The rest of the cases were mainly close contacts.

Five are from close contacts of someone who was positive and five are healthcare workers.

There are currently 20 confirmed COVID-19 patients in Perth metropolitan hospitals, with eight in ICU.

To date, 13,337 Western Australians have tested negative for COVID-19 with 1771 from regional WA.
