Trainer Gary Burger enjoyed more success when gelding Warzachantz scored a half-length victory in race six at Saturday’s Esperance Bay Turf Club meeting.

Warzachantz ($2.40 favourite) was seventh at the turn from barrier nine.

But he stormed home to edge Rod Brown-trained Aboard ($3.80) in the $17,500 Ampol Handicap (1400m).

Joyride (Josh Brown) led for most of the journey before fading to fourth.

With Lisa Staples in the saddle, Warzachantz has opened the club’s 2021-22 campaign with back-to-back wins.

It represented the second leg of a riding double for Staples, who earlier piloted Josh Brown-trained Don’t Compare to victory over 1200m.

The club’s next meeting is on Friday, December 17.
