Six West Aussies have won a chunk of $5 million, adding to WA’s lotto winner boom.

According to a press release from Lotterywest, a variety of places sold the six lucky Division One tickets for the Saturday draw.

“The winning tickets were sold from Yokine, Spearwood, Wanneroo, Collie and online and they are worth $319,939 each,” the press release stated.

One of the winners “has already made their way to Lotterywest HQ to claim their prize”.

Over a dozen more West Aussies also have a reason to celebrate, with thirteen Division Two tickets winning a share in $88,000 for their owners.

Impulse buying paid off for a Wanneroo couple who spontaneously purchased a ticket in the draw.

“I couldn’t sleep last night, I was up and down like a yoyo,” one of the retired couples said.

“We’ll be celebrating our wedding anniversary and birthdays in style this year.”

Reuben’s News owner Paul Reuben, a Collie local, has owned the store for over fifty years. Out of the six winning tickets, he sold one - however this was not the first time a top prize had been sold by him.

“Someone could be sitting on a winning ticket and not even know about it,” Mr Reuben said.

“We hope the winner is one of our regulars but whoever it is, we wish them the best of luck.”

In late May two unknown lotto players from NSW and Victoria each won $40 million out of the $80 million Powerball prize money.

WA, however, has also seen its fair share of major wins in 2022, with a total of 33 Division One winners so far this year. A string of lotto ‘rags to riches’ style stories have resulted from the ‘lotto luck’ the state has been experiencing.

Recently the hard-working owners of City News Kalgoorlie, Kevin and Tania Parkes, bought into a local lotto syndicate and won a portion of $63 million.

The couple had been working for over 30 years, and not only won part of the prize money - but also sold the $63 million winning ticket.

According to PerthNow, Mr and Mrs Parkes recently purchased a $3.2 million property that has four bathrooms, five bedrooms, a spa, a pool, and - of all things - a footy oval.

“We are following our kids and this will be our new dream home in Banjup, Perth where we will retire in January next year,” the winners said.

“We have sold the shop to a beautiful local family and we will train them up over the next 7 months for when they take over in January.

“After working 100+ hrs a week for the last 30 years with a total of about 20 days off in that time, it’s finally paid off.

“Can’t wait to see what this new chapter in our lives brings.”
