“Police sighted the vehicle at Kumbari Ave, Labrador, and a tyre deflation device (TDD) was successfully deployed on Jabiru Island,” a statement read.

The car was driven for a short while before being abandoned at the intersection of Hope Island Rd and Helensvale Rd.

“A man fled the vehicle on foot into nearby scrub,” police said.

The dog squad swept the area and soon located a 22-year-old Beenleigh man hiding underwater among the reeds near Saltwater Park.

The 22-year-old Beenleigh man was arrested at the scene.

Police allege they found ammunition when they searched the man, and a firearm discarded nearby.

The park remains cordoned off on Wednesday morning and a secondary crime scene has been established on the vehicle.

Police believe the shooting was targeted and the parties were known to each other.

A spokesman told NewsWire there is no ongoing threat to the community.

Investigations remain ongoing.
