The fallen — Lest We Forget

Today is Remembrance Day and Lower South West residents are being encouraged to attend local services.

Manjimup and Bridgetown both have services on this morning, with Manjimup’s from 11am and 10.45am at Bridgetown.

This year is also the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II.

Manjimup RSL president Rex Brown encourages people to attend a service if possible, especially because Anzac Day services were cancelled this year due to COVID-19.

“COVID has knocked us around at the RSL but people are encouraged to join us from 11am,” he said.

The Manjimup service will include guest speakers Manjimup shire president Paul Omodei, Peggy Rubcich and Manjimup RSL secretary Ted Middleton.

In the lead-up to Remembrance Day, Manjimup RSL received a donation of a giant karri sculpture of a soldier.

“Dan Robertson made it for us and it’s beautiful,” Mr Brown said.

“It’s all made out of one piece of wood.”

Mr Brown said the statue would soon be on display outside the Manjimup RSL hall in a glass case, with lighting and cameras for protection.
