Towns travelled to Chapman Valley to take on the Royals in a day bigger than footy with both teams coming together to raise funds and awareness for FightMND.

The sixth Big freeze in the Valley fundraiser was headlined by the league game on Saturday afternoon. It was closer than expected as Towns took it to the home side, but the Royals held strong and managed to get the win at Mazzuchelli Oval by eight points.

Chapman Valley’s Nathan Walter was best afield while Tyrone Papertalk Jr, Gerard Mckenna, Dylan Williamson and Mick Horstman also impressed.

Key forward Papertalk led the goal scoring for the Valley with an impressive four-goal performance, while Walter scored two majors.

Drew Forrester was among the Bulldogs’ best while Zane Marwick showed strength in the midfield for Towns. Jalen Parsons and Beau Walker kicked two goals apiece in the close contest.

Towns jumped out to a seven-point lead in the first quarter, catching Chapman Valley off guard early. The Royals answered in the second term with four goals as the home side went into the sheds with a lead of 10 points.

The second half was as close as it gets with neither team able to pull away. Chapman Valley were able to hold their ground only just, throwing everything at the Royals’ defensive unit.

The Royals managed to hold off the rampaging Bulldogs 9.14 (68) to Towns 9.6 (60).

Earlier that day in the women’s game, Chapman Valley hosted Towns in round nine.

Chapman Valley won a low-scoring match by three points, 2.5 (17) to Towns 2.2 (14).

Both sides welcomed back the seven players that travelled to Perth to represent Country WA. Ellie Blackmore, Taylah Broadhurst, Tegan Brooks, Eva Campo and Andie Payne returned for the Valley while Jess Giudice-Nairn and Olivia Bidwell pulled on the red and white for the Bulldogs.

Towns’ Bidwell kicked the only two goals in the game for the Bulldogs while the Royals also only managed two goals in the contest.

Best on ground for Towns was awarded to Giudice-Nairn while teammates Bidwell, Lucy Yokwe, Vanessa Gould and Kasey Maynard were also amongst the Bulldogs’ best.

Chapman Valley’s best players and goal kickers were unavailable at time of print.
