A Mt Magnet resident is furious the shire spent $25,256 on fencing for staff housing, only to see FIFO contractors getting drunk with a “skimpy” waitress and disrespecting her town.

Jade Reed lives a few houses down from where the Right Metal Fencing workmen stayed, and she alleged they spent the evening of December 23 “partying” on the roof of their accommodation with a “skimpy” barmaid.

She claimed they were throwing beer bottles on to the ground and drank excessively the whole time they were in town.

“It would have been our volunteers that would have to go peel them off the ground if they fell off the roof,” she said.

She described the workmen’s poor behaviour as adding insult to injury, because she felt the fencing was too expensive.

“$25,000 is a bit extravagant for a Colorbond fence,” she said.

She claims she had heard the contractors were kicked out of town by the Shire president Jorgen Jensen.

However, he said the contractors’ work was already completed when the final incident occurred.

“If that wasn’t the case we very well may have asked them to move on,” he said.

It’s annoying, but these things do happen. It’s not realistic to expect everyone to be on their best behaviour.

Cr Jensen confirmed the shire would not use the individual contractors or Right Metal Fencing again but denied the fence was overpriced.

Right Metal Fencing was not available for comment.
