The Shire of Yalgoo has given the Paynes Find Roadhouse and Tavern the go-ahead to continue with a $250,000 renovation and expansion project, with management staff saying they were turning guests away.

According to manager Amber Johnson, their dongas and caravan spots are filling up thanks to mining exploration and infrastructure projects in the area.

“With all the mining exploration, we have had a lot of people going through here,” she said, adding that an upcoming road extension would soon fill the roadhouse with guests.

Some renovations have already taken place, but this next round of upgrades will include four new guest dongas, two new staff accommodation units, laundry and five new caravan sites.

The Shire of Yalgoo voted unanimously to approve the build on the condition the business provided a bushfire management plan, as the site is in a bushfire prone area.

While she said business was booming, Ms Johnson said finding staff had proven a challenge.

“I’ve been advertising for staff for months and only just got people,” she said.

The business currently employs 12 people in Paynes Find, and Ms Johnson expects that number to grow as the physical facility gets bigger.
