Brookton police are investigating the theft of a 135-year-old church bell from St Mark’s Anglican Church

Police are investigating after a bronze church bell, more than a century old, was stolen from the oldest church in Brookton. The 135-year-old bronze bell belongs to St Mark’s Anglican Church on Robinson Road in Brookton. It is thought to have been stolen sometime between October 19 and October 26. The bell, which holds significant historical and sentimental value for the Brookton community, was taken from its pulley on the north side of the church near a main street in the townsite. The solid bronze bell is about 35cm tall and 36.5cm wide. St Mark’s Anglican Church itself was opened in 1895 and holds the mantle of being the town’s oldest surviving structure. The bell has marked the beginning of Anglican church services for the Brookton community for 130 years.
