Three incumbent councillors have been re-elected alongside a newcomer to the Shire of Kondinin council, with the successful candidates to be sworn in this week.

Bruce Browning, Paul Green and Kent Mouritz have reclaimed their seats around the table for another four-year term joined by new councillor Toni Smeed in a six-person race to fill four vacancies.

Kondinin farmer Cr Browning was voters’ top choice, receiving the largest amount of first preference votes at 96.

He was followed by grain grower Paul Green, who earned 81 first preference votes, securing a second four-year council stint.

Serving as shire president for the previous two-years, Cr Mouritz was third to recoup his seat for a second consecutive term retaining 71 first preference votes and was preceded by Smeed for the final spot.

Former councillor Brett Smith lost his seat in his bid to return to the table, alongside fellow unsuccessful candidate Gregory Gleeson.

The freshly elected four will join councillors Beverley Gangell, Murray James and Darren Pool in the chamber.

Councillor Kerrie Green did not re-contest for her seat.

More than half of eligible voters in Kulin submitted their ballots, with 343 out of 563 electors having their say.

The turnout amounts to 60.92 per cent of voters in the shire posting their papers, slightly less than the 41.42 per cent return rate seen in 2023.

The successful four will serve until October 20, 2029.

The Shire of Kondinin will hold a special meeting on Wednesday, October 29, to swear in the newly elected councillors and appoint a president and deputy.
