Narrogin’s own rubbish warriors

Narrogin residents are taking it upon themselves to clean up the town and its surrounds, after the Keep Australia Beautiful August clean-up was cancelled due to COVID-19.

Narrogin Environmental Action Team (NEAT) representative Lynne York spent a weekend picking up litter on Yilliminning Road and was shocked by the amount of rubbish she collected in the first 200m out of Narrogin.

“It’s really horrible to see,” she said.

“We had to stop, because I just honestly could not possibly fit any more rubbish in my boot.

“You don’t realise how much rubbish there is everywhere until you get out there.

“It’s just so disappointing that people still have that mindset to throw their rubbish out the window.”

NEAT, in partnership with Keep Australia Beautiful, urges people to take rubbish control into their own hands and work together to keep Narrogin and surrounds litter free.

“We really want people to register with Keep Australia Beautiful to adopt a spot and look after a certain area, whether that be a park or a section of the highway,” Ms York said.

“It so important, not only to keep our town and surroundings to remain as attractive as they possibly can, but to keep our wildlife safe.”
