Olympics prevail narrowly over All Blacks in Upper Great Southern Hockey Association men’s A-grade competition

After a number of weeks off due to a sinkhole in the Narrogin Hockey Stadium turf, players have returned to action in the Upper Great Southern Hockey Association in the past fortnight.

Olympics won a close game over All Blacks 2-1 in the men’s A-grade competition with Steven Sexton, Bradley Staphorst and Wade Angwin better players in the win.

Connor Page, Liam Sweeney and Toby Nicholas were solid for All Blacks on the weekend.

Warriors ran out commanding 6-0 winners over Lakers in the other men’s match as Nick Corner, Chris Allen and Matt Hough were named in the better players for the winners.

Zak Hatfield, Zac Haddleton and Graeme Treloar were in the best for Lakers.

In the women’s A-grade Warriors and Wagin played in a very close 0-0 draw with better players being Chloe Buzza, Cara Borthwick and Kira Flynn for Warriors.

Shahni Chiswell, Tahryn Trevenen and Leah Kellow were solid contributors for Wagin.

Williams and Robins had a 1-1 draw in the women’s A-grade.

Rachel Harding, Charlotte Tinley and Fleur Ford were in Williams’ best while Zeta O’Rourke, Chloe Blight and Claire Coffey were Robins’ better players.

In the men’s B-grade competition, Olympics beat Riffs 5-1, with Steven Sexton, Zac Baker and Shawn Heil better players in the win.

Warriors also recorded a comfortable 5-1 win over Wagin with better players being Steven Durell, Ryan Hough and Tom Bairstow for the victors.

Williams ran out emphatic 5-0 against All Blacks as Oliver Harding, Ashley Chadwick and Andrew Major all impressed.

Pingelly won with the only goal of the game over Dumbleyung in the other men’s B-grade match.

All Blacks won 2-0 over Williams in the women’s B-grade competition with Vanessa Perkins, Lucy Ward and Courtney Perkins named in the best for the victors.

Warriors scored the only two goals against Brookton as Sarah Hennessey, Chelsea Corner and Lucy Kilpatrick all had solid games.

Wickepin scored three goals to Robins two, with better players in the win being Renae Bransby, Nicole Larke and Amy Oats.

In the upper school games Toucans and Panthers had a 2-2 draw, Vultures scored six goals on their way to a win over Ag Rangers who scored one goal and Eagles defeated Falcons 2-1.

Leopards won 3-0 over Pumas while Tigers prevailed 4-1 over Cougars in the middle school games.

In the J11 competition Williams and Stingrays had a 1-1 draw while Lakers defeated Brookton 2-1 and Devils were emphatic 8-0 winners over Dingoes.
