Warriors book grand final berths in Upper Great Southern Hockey Association men and women A-grade competitions

Minor premiers Warriors will have a chance at premiership glory in the Upper Great Southern Hockey Association men’s A-grade competition after defeating All Blacks in the preliminary final on Friday.

After finishing on top of the ladder and going down to Riffs in their first final, Warriors will get a chance at redemption on Saturday.

A hat-trick from Regan Blyth guided Warriors to victory in the prelim.

Warriors got away to a dream start with a penalty corner conversion from Blyth to hold a 1-0 lead at half-time.

Early in the third quarter All Blacks scored a field goal through Liam Sweeney but late in the third quarter, Warriors took the lead again after Blyth added his second.

Midway through the last quarter, Blyth converted another penalty corner goal for Warriors to put his side up by two goals.

In an attempt to score late goals All Blacks removed their goalkeeper to have 11 field players but it was unsuccessful as Warriors booked their spot in the grand final with a 3-1 win.

Chris Allen, Blyth and Matthew Hough were important in the win while Sweeney, Sam Broad and Connor Page were gallant in defeat.

Warriors also bounced back in the women’s A-grade preliminary final on Friday to set up a grand final showdown with Wagin.

Nicki Evans helped Warriors start strongly against Williams in their preliminary final after an early field goal before a penalty corner conversion from Jasmyn Oats put them two goals up.

Late in the quarter Williams got one back from a penalty corner goal off Chloe Blight’s stick.

Another field goal from Evans put her side up 3-1 at half-time.

In the third quarter Warriors scored via a penalty stroke from Amy Manton and then a penalty corner goal from Chloe Buzza pushed them 5-1 ahead going into the final quarter.

Shannon Charles sealed the 6-2 win despite a late goal from Fleur Ford.

Amy Manton, Buzza and Nicki Fleay starred for the winners while Blight, Ford and Chloe Rogers served Williams best.

In the men’s B-grade competition minor premiers Dumbleyung advanced to the decider after a 3-1 win over Warriors in the preliminary final clash.

Lachlan Ward netted a first-half goal before a second-half brace from Orson Bairstow sealed the 3-1 win.

Jack Robinson found the back of the net in the final quarter for Warriors, who were best served by Steven Durrell, Lachlan Thompson and Ashley Forrest.

In women’s B-grade, Warriors progressed to the grand final after a 2-1 win over Wagin.

Warriors scored first through Ellie Olsen while Sarah Corner also found the back of the net in the final quarter.

Leila Pederick levelled the scores in the second term for Wagin but her side went down.

In the upper school competition Vultures prevailed andAg Rangers couldn’t be separated after golden goal extra time but Vultures prevailed 3-2 winners after winning the best of five one-on-ones on Thursday.

In a low scoring middle school preliminary final Tigers prevailed 1-0 winners on Thursday against Cougars with Rory Sands netting the goal.
