The Shire of Narrogin is seeking public comment on a proposed agricultural dealership and service centre in line with the Shire’s vision to increase industrial use in the area.

Lot 21 Graham Road is the proposed site for the dealership which would comprise a showroom, offices, storage area for mechanical parts and a workshop.

However, the proposed site is zoned as rural under the former Town of Narrogin’s Town Planning Scheme.

At last month’s council meeting, councillors voted to grant planning approval in the event that no negative submissions were received during the 21-day advertising period.

Shire of Narrogin chief executive Dale Stewart said there was high demand for the business.

“We are most pleased that AFGRI Equipment Australia has decided to invest in Narrogin with a significant building and acquisition of land within industrial area and cement their activities for the dealership to service Narrogin and broader southern Wheatbelt,” he said.

“The Narrogin branch will employ 25 permanent staff once fully operational so it will be good for the district, good for the multiplier impact of employees living and working in Narrogin at a dealership that much of the agricultural hinterland needs for purchasing of new tractors, farm equipment and machinery and servicing.”

Submissions can be made to the Shire in writing by May 29.
