A 19-month-old child is dead after she was hit by a reversing four-wheel-drive outside her Bayswater home yesterday afternoon.

The tragedy happened about 5.15pm at a property on Walter Road East when a white Toyota LandCruiser Troop Carrier was reversing in to the driveway off the busy main road.

The little girl had wandered out on to the driveway and the driver of the Toyota is understood to have not seen her until it was too late.

Several people including the driver and neighbours, who heard screams for help, rushed to help the toddler.
