Harvey Community Resource Centre to host info sessions on Staying in Place program

The Harvey Community Resource Centre is geared up to host a community information session for its Staying In Place program in Binningup next week.
On October 27, the CRC will take over the Binningup Country Club from 10.30am to answer questions about the program introduced earlier this year.
It aims to give seniors the ability to stay within their communities while growing older, helping people access vital services.
Harvey CRC Staying In Place coordinator Michele Thomas said the event wasn’t just for seniors, but anyone with someone in their life who could use the service.
“If there’s someone that you love, or someone that is experiencing deterioration, you can come and ask questions to see if we can help,” she said.
Ms Thomas said it was important for everyone to know what services were available.
“We’ve had people say, ‘I’m in my 80s and I’m fine,’ but what if something happens and you hit crisis? We never know what’s around the corner,” she said.
Ms Thomas said it could be hard for people to ask for help, but it was the best way to prepare for a situation where you may have no choice.
“A prime example I like to share is, if it is raining and your gutters are full, and all that water starts to pelt down into your home, can you go out in the rain, climb up a ladder and empty the gutters?” she said.
“That’s the sort of simple thing we can advocate for and get the ball rolling.”
