Thunderstorm warnings for parts of SA

Severe thunderstorms are forming over parts of South Australia with forecasts of large hail, heavy rain and the potential for flash flooding.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe storm warning on Wednesday afternoon for the state's central north and the Eyre Peninsula.

Locations which could be affected include Ceduna, Tarcoola, Streaky Bay and Emu Junction.

The bureau issued a similar warning for the state's southeast including the towns of Mount Gambier, Naracoorte, Lameroo, Bordertown, Keith, Millicent and Lucindale and for the Riverland including Renmark, Waikerie, Loxton, Berri and Blanchetown.

The bureau said a warm and humid air mass over the state, together with an upper trough moving across the Great Australian Bight, would bring the storms.

The warnings followed last weekend's deluge across SA's north which brought record rainfall to some regional centres and caused major damage to many outback roads.

By Wednesday, the Stuart Highway between Adelaide and Darwin remained cut with images posted online showing the road still submerged in several places.
