WA weather live blog: Storm causes widespread damage across WA coast

People across the State have woken this morning to assess the damage wrought by WA’s once-in-a-decade weather event.

Roofs have been torn from homes, trees uprooted and 1000s left without power as a powerful series of storms unleashed their fury causing havoc from the Pilbara to the Great Southern.

About 50,000 people remain without power, 37,000 of those in the metropolitan area.

Massive wind gusts were recorded across WA, peaking at 132 km/h in Cape Leeuwin and 91 km/h in Bickley.

Heavy rainfall has also pounded the state Margaret River recording 51.8mm of rain since 9am yesterday and Learmonth 59.6mm.

A severe weather warning remains in place from Kalbarri to Israelite Bay. The dangerous conditions are expected to ease during the day over the South West of the State.
