Day to show our Rockingham-Kwinana SES thanks

Be it a storm, a fire or a flood, Rockingham and Kwinana residents can expect to see their local SES coming to the rescue.

And tomorrow is the day to show our appreciation.

The local unit has 66 active members, all of which are volunteers.

While Wear Orange Wednesday, a big gathering to show appreciation, isn’t possible this year, local manager Mark Wyatt still encouraged the community to wear orange in support.

“They can wear an orange shirt to show their appreciation of what we actually do for the State and the community,” Mr Wyatt said.

“It is an opportunity to see one of the members walking around and the public can ask them ‘what do you do’, ‘how can I get involved’.”

Mr Wyatt said the local unit had a strong volunteer spirit.

“It’s very important, the spirit we have. We’re very cohesive. Every Wednesday night our members turn up. We go on numerous call-outs and we respond as a team,” he said.

“We’re always looking for active members

“Anyone over the age of 18, regardless of ability. We’ll teach you everything you need and provide the uniforms.”

Local WOW Day representative and SES volunteer Daniel Bareli said the day allowed the community to see that the Rockingham-Kwinana Unit was “out here”.

“We are here to help in any situation be it storm, fire, flood, search and rescue, anything,” Mr Bareli said.

“We’re trying to raise awareness of storms and being storm ready.

“Make sure your property is secure, tie down loose objects and clean gutters. We don’t come out and clean gutters.

“Be storm ready and if you do get in trouble, give us a ring.”
