The City of Kwinana announces its citizen of the year winners for 2022

The City of Kwinana has announced its citizen of the year winners for 2022, with three citizenship awards presented at the Local Organisations Christmas function on December 3.

Jacob Solomon was named Kwinana citizen of the year and Robina Ellis was Kwinana senior citizen of the year, with the Koorliny Arts Management Committee claiming the active citizenship award.

Mr Solomon earned the title for his dedication to the community, through his involvement in groups including the Indian Society of WA, Indians in Kwinana, Malayalee Association of WA, Healing International, Charity for a Cause, Celebrate Culture, and Connecting Communities for Kids.

Mrs Ellis was given her award for her dedication to the Homestead Ridge Progress Association.

She has been a very active member of the association for the past 10 years, holding the position of president for five years and interacting with the council to apply for grants for movie nights and neighbourhood days.

Mrs Ellis and husband Goff also began fostering in the UK, and have fostered more than 50 children.

The Koorliny Arts Management Committee is responsible for ensuring the Koorliny Arts Centre offers a range of theatre, music and dance programs throughout the year.

The committee contributed 1726 volunteer hours in the last financial year, which included the introduction of online studio broadcasts as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mayor Carol Adams congratulated the winners and acknowledged all nominees.

“We are indebted to a number of individuals and organisations that dedicate significant amounts of time, energy and passion as long-time volunteers in the Kwinana community,” Ms Adams said.
