After tightening up their defence and having greater success with their variety of play combinations, Busselton fought back in an impressive second set to win 26-24.

Aided by great serving runs by Edan Cristinelli and Brett Lewington and solid all-round play from Sunny Kemp, Busselton cruised through the final 2 sets, with scores 25-14 for both, to take the victory.

There was good energy and enthusiasm shown by the Men’s Division 2 team in their ensuing match against Reds.

Setter Aaron Cranfield was cool under pressure and high-leaping attacks by Brodie Mann won a number of points.

The team, largely composed of developing players, showed great promise in three closely fought sets, but eventually succumbed to more consistent play by the opposition, with final scores reading 21-25, 18-25, 24-26.

The Womens SLR team found things a bit tougher against ladder-leaders Balcatta, going down in four hard-fought sets, 25-18, 19-25, 25-27, 23-25.

In what coach Mandy Combes described as a “roller coaster match”, each set was close, but a number of unforced errors at crucial times cost Busselton dearly.

Combes said she is confident the side are capable of overcoming Balcatta when the team is playing at their best.
