Students at Carey Park Primary School have been getting creative ahead of their annual Art Show event.

Held at the school yesterday, the event showcased more than 500 colourful works of art ranging from portraits to sculptures.

“We’ve held this event for years, combining it with our school open day and it’s always very enjoyable,” deputy principal Kelly Dillon said.

“Half the school come down and go through the Art Show with their parents and families and vote on their favourite piece, while the other half of the school are invited to take a look inside the classrooms and throughout the school.”

Mrs Dillon said the school’s art specialist, Lesley Rintoul, did an amazing job getting each student to submit two pieces of art.

“At Carey Park Primary School, we really value art as a way to develop the whole child,” Mrs Dillon said. “The student’s art is given a real value and purpose by being put onto display and shared with fellow students and teachers.

“They are also learning to view and appreciate art respectfully and are encouraged to communicate their opinions and knowledge of art skills and processes.”

Carey Park Primary School will also celebrate its 65th birthday next Friday with a special assembly.
