Winter can be difficult for those without a home, which is why a South West support agency is offering extra help this National Homelessness Week.

Anglicare Bunbury has put together a donation station to help those in need fight the chill.

Coats, blankets, sleeping bags and toiletries are available for those in need and can be found outside the Spencer Street office.

Community members with items to spare have been encouraged to contribute to the rack and help those experiencing hardship to keep warm during the cold winter.

Anglicare WA South West service manager Cathy Mills hoped to create backpacks with essentials, such as soap and toothpaste, to give away.

Ms Mills said people dealt with homelessness year-round, but hoped the spotlight would help the community become more aware of the hardships.

We get a lot of foot traffic, so we’re seeing people come past all the time, and we’ve also got clients coming through.

“Between June and the end of July we had 12 people who identified themselves as homeless come through our financial counselling service, so our clients are people who would be needing warm blankets. Donations will help us continue the initiative ... we want to do it year-round.”

Ms Mills said a lot of people were experiencing hardships and encouraged them to reach out to the free emergency relief line on 1800 979 777.
