DPIRD has issued a shark advice to water users in Busselton after a shark detection receiver went offline

A shark advice has been issued for Busselton water users due to a partial outage in the Shark Monitoring Network at Busselton Jetty. The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development advised that tagged shark detections from Shark Monitoring Network receiver located at jetty inshore is currently offline. The other two receivers — located at jetty’s middle and end — remain operational while the DPIRD staff investigate the fault. Water users are advised to take additional caution int he Busselton area and adhere to beach closures advised by Local Government Rangers, Parks and Wildlife Service officers or Surf Life Saving WA. DPIRD urges people to stay informed by checking for shark activity on the SharkSmart website, mobile app or follow SLSWA on X. Any shark sighting should be reported to the Water Police on 9442 8600 — this will be provided to land managers and relevant authorities to update on the SharkSmart network. DPIRD said they will be working to restore the system to full operational status as soon as possible.
