LSWFL president touts successful season with spectacular Saturday grand final

President of the Lower South West Football League Tristan Mead said the quality of football shown during 2024 grand finals was a testament to the season as a whole. Talking to the Times after Saturday’s grand finals, Mr Mead said the close games were a true reflection of the year that was. “The league grand final was very closely contested which is what we wanted to see, so it was wrapped up nicely, as far as the league was concerned,” he said. “Boyup Brook and Kojonup were never more than a couple kicks in it all day — it was a highly skilful and contested game. “The quality of football and the way we play down here highlights what league we have and how good it is, compared to other leagues. “The colts game was a closely contested game early on, and then Tigers ran away with the win at the end. “In the reserves game, Deanmill were pretty much on top all day, and played outstanding football for a reserves side.” Mr Mead said about 2000 people watched the season’s peak games on Saturday. “The finals showed how the community support is, with fantastic crowds through the whole finals series,” he sad. “(There were) no dramas and everything ran smoothly, so compared to previous seasons, it’s followed on pretty well. “There’s always a few challenges, but we work through them with the clubs and got through them successfully.”
