Swimming pools under inspection for safety compliance in the Shire of Harvey

Private swimming pools and spas are set for a visit from the Shire of Harvey to ensure they are compliant with state legislation.

A set of officers will be sent out to look at pool barriers across the region to ensuring they meet requirements.

It is a State Government requirement all private swimming pools and spas with water deeper than 300mm have a secure barrier or fence which can restrict unsupervised young children from accessing the area.

Under state guidelines, the Shire is required to inspect all pools, spas and their safety barriers once construction is completed every four years.

Shire officers will attend homeowners properties to check fences, gates and latches are all working properly.

They will also check that there are no climbable objects around the pool fence.

If residents are not home when the officer visits and they cannot complete their inspection, people will be required to arrange a follow-up inspection within 14 days of their first visit.
