The Wiggles have never been bigger, or busier.
This year has taken the iconic Australian children’s entertainers on major tours throughout North America and United Kingdom, they made their debut at the AFL Grand Final parade and later this month they will launch their second Australian tour — billed as their most ambitious yet.
But before that, they will embark on another milestone moment which is set to bring joy to thousands of WA fans.
Popular Blue and Yellow Wiggles Lucia Field and Tsehay Hawkins will be appearing at this year’s Telethon, and have promised to bring colour, energy and sparkle to the special WA weekend.
Speaking to The Sunday Times this week, the pair said Telethon aligned with everything they represented: bringing joy to children.
“It just makes sense, and we’re so very excited,” Field said.
“It’s a girls trip, and we can’t wait to meet everybody. We get so much joy from meeting people, it’s just electric, you can’t help but love what you do and love that you’re in this space and that’s why it’s so incredibly special to be going to Telethon.
“It’s for an incredible cause, for incredible children and we are going to try and bring our A game for them, and of course to raise money for charity.”
The effervescent duo will take to the Telethon stage on Sunday morning of Telethon weekend, bringing singing, dancing and Wiggles magic to the 26-hour broadcast.
Families will also have the chance to meet Lucia and Tsehay in person when they make a special appearance at the Telethon Family Festival on Sunday, October 18.
Tsehay said Telethon was “iconic” and she looked forward to the lip-syncing challenges which have become a tradition.
“We are very keen and we’re excited,” she said about attending her first Telethon weekend.
“Music is a universal language and we think if The Wiggles can bring some light and colour, it will be really fun.”
Just six days after Telethon, the pair and the entire Wiggles ensemble will embark on a huge national arena tour — The Wiggles’ Sparkle! BIG SHOW which kicks off in Sydney.
The show is inspired by The Wiggles’ new album, Sparkle! Circus of Lights, and will bring together eight Wiggles from across the group’s 35-year history.
“We’re doing lots of new songs that we’ve never performed before, and we’re very excited about lots of new costumes . . . and inflatables, lots of inflatables,” Lucia said.
“There are big things happening in Wiggle HQ at the moment but all exciting things. It’s go, go, go.”
As to where their boundless energy comes from, Lucia puts it down to “coffee, fruit salad and music”.
“It never stops but that’s how we like it,” she added.
And they’ve learned from the best, Lucia’s dad and “OG Blue Wiggle” Anthony Field.
“His love of music literally carries him. He will fall asleep on the couch playing guitar and then he’ll wake up and keep playing,” she laughed.
“It’s his entire life, and it’s all of our entire lives. His brain is wired in a way where he comes up with new instrumentation every day, and we all feed off of that and learn so much.”
This year also saw The Wiggles sign a global agreement with Universal Music Group and marked their third year as Australia’s top local artist on Spotify.
“It shows that The Wiggles are still a driving force after 30 years, which is cool as it has moved with the times,” she said. “We’ve gotten into the DJ era of things, but still keep the OG Wiggle feel.”
Fans will be happy to hear those original classics, such as Fruit Salad and Hot Potato, will feature in the new show.
“We now how much of a full cycle moment this is for so many parents and grandparents as well who are bringing their children to the shows, it’s so incredibly special,” Lucia said.
“I think that’s why The Wiggles has stood the test of time, because that ethos has stayed the same, and good music has always been there as well.”
Their Telethon debut is set to be a highlight of the weekend, with thousands of families expected to flock to Perth for the Telethon Family Festival presented by Coles, on Sunday, October 18.
Telethon 2026 will be broadcast live on Channel 7 and 7plus from 7pm Saturday, October 17, through to Sunday evening, with the Telethon Family Festival taking place on Sunday, October 18, from 10am to 4pm.
