Man facing 20 charges for alleged Wyndham attack pleads not guilty to sexual assault

A man accused of physically and sexually assaulting his partner and breaking protective bail conditions a dozen times has faced Kununurra court, pleading not guilty to five offences.

The man, who can’t be named to protect his alleged victim, faced Kununurra Magistrates Court via videolink from West Kimberley Regional Prison on Friday over an alleged incident in Wyndham on August 15.

He is accused of 20 offences including sexual assault, using a surveillance device to secretly record a private activity, home burglary, common assault, and 12 counts of breaching protective bail conditions.

The man pleaded not guilty to two counts of aggravated sexual penetration without consent, two counts of impeding a person’s normal breathing by applying pressure to the neck, and aggravated unlawful assault.

He is yet to enter pleas for the remaining 15 charges.

He will be remanded in custody, with his case committed to the Kununurra District Court for a trial listing hearing on January 25.
