Farm worker killed in tractor accident in Carabooda

UPDATE: A farm worker has been killed in a tractor accident at a private property in Perth’s north. WorkSafe investigators are on their way to the Carabooda tomato farm, where the woman died in a workplace accident just before 10am this morning. Initial reports suggested the tractor involved in the accident rolled, however, The West Australian has been told this no longer appears to be the cause of the incident. WA Police forensic officers are at the tragic scene now, where more than 10 farm workers are gathered. Several workers exchanged tearful embraces while others patted each other on the shoulder. Two young workers could be seen sitting on the ground cradling their heads in their hands. Less than 10m away from them stood the orange tractor believed to be behind the incident, draped with a blue tarp. The area has been cordoned off by police tape. Detectives are now trying to piece together the last terrifying moments of the worker killed, and were seen talking to several farm workers. Several hundred metres of Old Yanchep Road, near Jacksonia Road, have been blocked off by Clarkson and Yanchep police crews. It comes just two weeks after worker Edward Wong was killed at a popular strawberry farm in Bullsbrook. The contracted worker was found dead by fellow employees at Pick Your Own Strawberry Farm about 9.20am on November 11. The 37-year-old Malaysian man was crushed by machinery attached to a tractor that he had driven into a field near Old W Road. The farm shut up shop immediately after the man’s death and said in a Facebook post on Wednesday night that the business would be shutting down for the season. More to come.
