Homicide detectives charge 19yo Jay Harrington with murder over stabbing death of Phillip Narkle in Rivervale

A 19-year-old man has been charged with murder over the stabbing death of an 18-year-old man in Rivervale at the weekend. Phillip Narkle, 18, died after an alleged violent incident at a unit on Gladstone Road, in Rivervale, after 5pm on Saturday. Police said Mr Narkle was found by officers at the address with serious injuries consistent with a stab wound. Paramedics arrived at the home eight minutes after being alerted to the incident and rushed the young man to Royal Perth Hospital, where he later died. Homicide detectives confirmed on Monday that they had charged Jay Lewis Paul Harrington with murder. The 19-year-old briefly faced Perth Magistrates Court on Monday morning from custody. He appeared at the hearing wearing an orange jumpsuit and did not speak during the matter other than to confirm his name and that he understood the charge. He was supported by two family members seated in the public gallery, who both declined to speak to waiting media outside court. Lawyer Anna Trewarn did not make an application for bail on behalf of her client, who is facing four other, unrelated offences which were adjourned for eight weeks for legal advice. Mr Harrington’s murder charge was adjourned until June 25 at Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court. The family of his alleged victim remembered Mr Narkle as an adventurous person who loved his culture and family, saying he was a younger brother “who thought he was the oldest”.
