Legendairy sports moove
Dairy farmers in the South West are going to extraordinary lengths to raise the profile of milk among health-conscious parents and youngsters.
The WA dairy industry is sponsoring next month's Busselton Ironkids event and will bring a dozen cows to the coast for a beachfront parade before the start of the race.
Boyanup farmer and Western Dairy chairman Victor Rodwell said the industry wanted to promote the nutritional benefits of milk and its use as a sports drink as part of the Legendairy campaign.
The cows will be paraded along the foreshore and under the Busselton Jetty on race day after Mr Rodwell took the chance to dip his toes in the water during last week's Busselton Show.
"We had a team of cows competing in the show, and so it was just too good an opportunity to miss, to get our lead cow in the water and used to parading on the sand," he said.
"The whole intent of our sponsorship is to integrate our Legendairy campaign with the local community and to highlight the role of dairy in this region.
"The dairy industry is a great neighbour and valuable part of the community, and we want to share that with all."
