The mother of a Mandurah boy who has been missing for more than week has made an impassioned public plea for her son to come home.

Misha Guy, mother of 13-year-old Andrew Howlett who has been missing for eight days, said it’s “not like her son” to be away from home this long.

“It’s been eight days and I don’t understand why no one’s seen him or heard anything from him,” Ms Guy told reporters outside Mandurah Police Station on Tuesday.

“To me eight days is a long time, and I don’t know what else I can do to try and find him.”

The 13-year-old hasn’t been seen since last Monday after he allegedly skipped school and went to a friend’s house in in the Mandurah suburb of Greenfields.

It’s believed the friend’s mother contacted Ms Guy Monday night, telling her Andrew was in the shed out the back.

When Ms Guy arrived to pick Andrew up, he insisted he walked home. He then ran off into nearby Bortolo Park about 9.30pm, leaving behind his backpack and phone.

Mandurah Police officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Ross Blake said the teen then made contact with his father two days later on March 30, though it remains unknown on what device.

It’s believed the teen uses Snapchat, Discord and Facebook messenger but hasn’t been active on any of his socials.

Ms Guy said while he’s a well-behaved kid, he has “been through a lot lately”.

“His dad lost parental rights over him recently and stopped visiting, so I think that’s probably brought him down a bit,” she said.

“I know he’s struggling at school making friends and finding his spot at school but I don’t think that leads to disappearing for eight days.”
